The course is divided into five units. Two units are studied at AS and three units are studied at A2. The topics studied at Y Pant are:

AS

Unit 1 Period Study Politics, Protest And Reform In Wales And England C1780-1880 The focus of this unit is on developments and changes over a broader timescale. It is examined by means of a 90 minute examination of essay style questions and is worth 20% of the A2 qualification.
Unit 2 Depth Study Part 1 Germany: Democracy To Dictatorship C1918-1945

Part 1: Weimar And Challenges C1918-1933

The focus of this unit is on evidence based questions which involves the evaluation of historical sources and different interpretations. It is examined by means of a 1 hour 45 minutes examination and is worth 20% of the A2 qualification.

A-level

A2 Unit 3 Breadth Study The American Century C1890-1990 The focus of this unit is the study of two nominated themes from the period. It is examined by means of essay questions in a 1 hour 45 minutes examination and is worth 20% of the A2 qualification.
A2 Unit 4 Depth Study Part 2 Germany: Democracy To Dictatorship C1918-1945

Part 2: Nazi Germany C1933-45

This is the second half of the Depth Study which is studied at AS. It is examined by means of a 1hour 45 minutes examination which will involve answering a source based question and an essay. It is worth 20% of the A2 qualification.
A2 Unit 5 Historical Interpretations This unit will focus on a specific historical problem or issue. It forms the controlled assessment element of the course and involves writing an essay of between 3000 and 4000 words. It is worth 20% of the A2 qualification.
