Performing Arts (Bryn Celynnog)

You will enjoy this course if you wish to develop your own music, drama or dance skills, with an opportunity to specialise in either performance or production (lighting, sound, back stage crewing)

AS – 3 Modules

Unit 1 Exploring skills for performance.  This will be a combination of acting, art administration, dance and music and will contain the necessary elements to deliver “Musical Theatre” or “Physical Theatre”.
Unit 2 Planning for an event.  Students will engage in research on content, potential audiences, planning for performance and all support functions
Unit 3 Performing to a commission.  This final AS unit requires learners to respond to a commission chosen from a selection set by the board and create an appropriate performance.  Students will bring all the skills from the first two units together for this externally assessed unit.

 A LEVEL – 3 Modules

Unit 4 Employment Opportunities for the Performing Arts.

Students examine the relevance of work opportunities in the industry and monitor their own skills in relation to potential progression routes into the industry.

EITHER Unit 5 Advanced Performance Practice.

This leads on from Unit 1 and allows students to extend their performance skills and apply them to a specific role.


Unit 6

Advanced Production Practice. This is for students who wish to specialise in technical production, design or administration roles.
Unit 7 The students will be given a production Brief set by Edexcel and will create an appropriate polished performance.  This is externally assessed.  Throughout the two years students have to keep appropriate portfolios of work.

Requirements/skills for entry onto the course

Four GCSEs at grade A* – C might include GCSE in Drama and / or Music at grades A* – C.

  • other level 2 qualifications such as Intermediate GNVQ in Performing Arts; Edexcel BTEC First Diploma in Performing Arts.
  • Grade related qualifications in Dance, Drama and Music.
